Danas Pozniakas


Danas Pozniakas (October 19, 1939 – February 4, 2005) was a Lithuanian boxer who competed for the Soviet Union.
He was born near Białystok and died in Vilnius.
In 1968 he won the Olympic gold medal in the light heavyweight class.
His family moved to Vilnius in the 1950s. From 1959 to 1966 he trained at the Armed Forces sports society, and from 1968 to 1969 for Trudovye Rezervy sports society in Vilnius. He became the Honoured Master of Sports of the USSR in 1965 and was awarded the Order of the Red Banner of Labour in 1969. During his career Pozniakas won 203 fights out of 217. Since 1974 he was an AIBA International Referee.〔 (Profile in the Olympic Encyclopedia )〕
